Clare Blatherwick FGA DGA offers a one to one jewellery redesign service for clients.
Having worked in jewellery for over 20 years, Clare understands the degree of emotion that is attached to jewellery. Jewels were not made or given to sit unworn in a drawer or safe deposit box. But the reality is that tastes change. Sometimes inherited pieces don’t fit into our current lifestyle or simply just don’t suit the current owner. In many cases, it is possible to reinvent a piece, or reuse the stones in a completely new design. There are instances where an antique or period piece of jewellery can be worth more than the sum of its parts. It may be better to sell or auction the jewel and reinvest in another piece. Through conversation, Clare will ensure you can make an informed decision as to how you want to proceed.
You may have a finished design in your imagination, or just a spark of an idea which can be developed further. The concept could be as vague as simply wanting to use the principal gemstone or diamond from the original jewel, or much more specific if you have a clear idea of what you would like. Through Clare’s jewellery design contacts, she can arrange the translation of the ideas into detailed drawings.
Alongside approving the redesign concept, there would be a discussion around metals, gemstones, diamonds and a budget would be agreed. If required, Clare will go on to carefully select a range of the best quality and value diamonds or gemstones for you to make your choice from.
Clare will then liaise, on your behalf, with some of the finest jewellery makers and craftsmen in the UK, bringing the new design to life, ensuring throughout that your reinvented jewel is of the best quality and finish, turning something from being unworn into a new favourite.
