The art of reinvention

Jewellery was made to be seen and enjoyed, but the reality is that tastes and fashions change. So, if a piece in your collection remains unworn and sitting in its box, why not reinvent it? Clare Blatherwick and her team can reimagine an existing piece of jewellery into an updated design that you’ll love, or even reuse the gemstones in a completely new design of your own creation.

Heirloom jewellery alterations

Sentimental value and wearability don’t always go hand in hand, which is why it’s always worth considering having an unworn piece altered to suit your style. If you can’t bear to part with an inherited piece of jewellery, it can be sympathetically updated in a variety of ways, and become a beloved piece in the family collection once more. Antique and period jewellery can also be worth more than the sum of its parts, so you might like to consider selling it and reinvesting in another piece you love. We’d be happy to discuss the various options with you.

Engagement ring redesign

Clare and her team have a wealth of experience in remodelling engagement rings. There are many reasons why you might want to remodel your ring – perhaps you’re approaching a significant anniversary and would like to mark the occasion with a timely update, are looking for a setting that feels more contemporary or that better suits your current style. You might even be considering more dramatic changes for an engagement ring that feels completely refreshed. Remodelling an engagement ring also makes a thoughtful wedding anniversary gift idea, and is an opportunity to celebrate all over again and create new memories together as a couple.

How does the remodelling process work?

Our lead jewellery designer Jacqui brings over 30 years of experience to every client’s jewellery remodelling journey. Following an initial briefing, you will be presented with a series of sketches showing the ways your piece can be transformed. The price of a remodelling project varies greatly depending on the materials, complexity and time involved. Commissioning sketches starts at £200, and we can advise you on the likely final cost of remodelling your jewellery piece following your consultation. To request more details, please contact us.

A guide to remodelling jewellery with Clare Blatherwick

Reimaging a piece of jewellery is a considered, but also hugely enjoyable process, with a number of steps involved. No two journeys are ever the same, and that is the beauty of allowing us to create a unique piece of jewellery for you. At the heart of it all is you, and we pride ourselves on our highly personalised and flexible approach.

It all begins with a one-to-one consultation. That can be had in person at our studio, at your home or another convenient location. We also offer the option to discuss by phone or meet ‘virtually’ in a video call.

Our designer will create a selection of designs to demonstrate the ways in which your existing piece of jewellery can be transformed.

We adore the process of reimagining unworn jewellery into a beautiful piece that will become a forever favourite. Wherever possible we reuse existing gemstones and metals and some of our greatest design triumphs are born from recycling old jewellery. We also have access to some of the best diamond and gemstone dealers in the world and can source all varieties of natural diamonds and gemstones to be used as part of this exciting creative process.

Once you’re happy with your chosen design, and subject to how your piece will be made, we will either arrange detailed Computer Aided Design renders, or further detailed hand drawn designs, which will capture how your finished piece will look. At this stage, you’ll be provided with an estimate of costs involved in creating the piece, and a firm quote once all materials and gemstones have been agreed upon. At this stage, a 50% deposit to commence work is requested. If you decide not to go ahead with the project at this stage, a fee for time to create the sketches and cover the costs levied to us by the workshop for the CAD renders is payable.

The cost of remodelling jewellery varies greatly, depending on the time, complexity and materials involved. Each project will be different, but we appreciate you’d like to have something of an indication before contacting us – especially if this is the first time you have undertaken this sort of process. As a rough guide, and using your own existing gemstones or diamonds, a simple project like remounting a three-stone ring will start at around £1,500. Something more complex like a wide wave design ring set with multiple stones will start at around £3,500. We would encourage you to get in touch as we pride ourselves on clear communication and ensuring we create the perfect piece for you within budget.

We’re fortunate to have access to the country’s most experienced and highly respected workshops and will handpick the perfect craftsperson for your project. The lead time for making a piece is generally between four and eight weeks depending on the nature of the project, but it can take longer depending on the artisan’s availability. We would always rather wait for the right workshop to become available than redirect the job to someone who may not meet our high standards. Quality is something that will simply never be compromised.

For the perfect finishing touch, your new jewel is presented in a high-quality box, carefully bound in our branded ribbon. We are also able to provide an insurance valuation if required.

If you have any questions about our jewellery remodelling services, please get in touch with the Clare Blatherwick team. We’re here to help and advise you.

I just wanted to message to say how much I love my ring, I feel you really listened and understood my initial ideas and have created something perfect for me. It’s one thing loving something aesthetically but quite another when there’s an emotional connection too.
