If you’ve ever dreamt of designing your own piece of jewellery, or are looking for the most thoughtful of gifts for a loved one, our bespoke jewellery design service is a chance to create a piece that will be treasured now and forever. We’ve made one-off pieces as varied as a handmade suite of diamond-set jewellery with their own fitted case complemented by the recipient's initials tooled in gold on the lid, through to cufflinks set with significant coloured gemstones, to a bespoke pendant containing a beloved pet's ashes. Our social platforms show many of the pieces we make and follow the design journey. We relish the opportunity to transform a client’s idea into extraordinary, highly original designs.

How the design process works

Whatever inspires you, Clare Blatherwick and her team will guide you through the entire process. Some clients approach us with an intricate level of detail, dreamt up over the years; others with an abstract line drawing, a vision in their mind’s eye, or even no idea at all - just the knowledge they want something special. To get the ball rolling, Clare or one of her team will meet with you in person, over the phone or via video call to discuss your design ideas, gemstones, budget and any other considerations. Once agreed, it’s onto the fun part of designing the jewellery, along with sourcing any gemstones required. The next step is for you approve the concept and detailed drawings will be made. Clare will then liaise with the UK’s finest makers and craftspeople to create your piece.

A guide to creating bespoke jewellery with Clare Blatherwick

Designing a piece of jewellery is a considered, but also hugely enjoyable process, with a number of steps involved. No two journeys are ever the same, and that is the beauty of allowing us to create a bespoke piece of jewellery for you. At the heart of it all is you, and we pride ourselves on our highly personalised and flexible approach.

It all begins with a one-to-one consultation. That can be had in person at our studio, at your home or another convenient location. We also offer the option to discuss by phone or meet ‘virtually’ in a video call.

Our designer will create a selection of designs to demonstrate the ways in which your imagined and ideal piece of jewellery can be made into a reality.

We adore the process of creating jewels that a client has been dreaming of, sometimes for years! We have access to some of the best diamond and gem dealers in the world and can source all varieties of natural diamonds and gemstones to be used as part of this exciting creative process.

Once you’re happy with your chosen design, and subject to how your piece will be made, we will either arrange detailed Computer Aided Design renders, or further detailed hand drawn designs, which will capture how your finished piece will look. At this stage, you’ll be provided with an estimate of costs involved in creating the piece, and a firm quote once all materials and gemstones have been agreed upon. At this stage, a 50% deposit to commence work is requested. If you decide not to go ahead with the project at this stage, a fee for time to create the sketches and cover the costs levied to us by the workshop for the CAD renders is payable.

The cost of bespoke jewellery varies greatly, depending on the time, complexity and materials involved. Each project will be different, and we tend to work on projects upwards of £2,000. We have been trusted to create pieces of equal merit to those found in the finest luxury jewellery houses. We would encourage you to get in touch as we pride ourselves on clear communication and ensuring we create the perfect piece for you within budget.

We’re fortunate to have access to the country’s most experienced and highly respected workshops and will handpick the perfect craftsperson for your project. The lead time for making a piece is generally between four and eight weeks depending on the nature of the project, but it can take longer depending on the artisan’s availability. We would always rather wait for the right workshop to become available than redirect the job to someone who may not meet our high standards. Quality is something that will simply never be compromised.

For the perfect finishing touch, your new jewel is presented in a high-quality box, carefully bound in our branded ribbon. We are also able to provide an insurance valuation if required.
